Revised Dangerous Goods Regulations

will come into force in 2009, including changes to tank design standards and the introduction of the new 'Environmental Hazard' Diamond. UK stakeholder consultations are presently taking place.

 

CHIP3

Amended chemicals Classification,Packaging and Labelling Regulations (CHIP3) take effect in October 2008.

 

New EU chemicals Classification,

Packaging and Labelling Regulations linked to REACH and converging with the Global Harmonised System (GHS), will go before the European Parliament in September.

 

Requirements for HGV driver Certificate of Competence

applies from September 2008. Existing HGV drivers will need to undertake the periodic training programme during the subsequent 5 years, while new drivers will need to obtain the Certificate at the time of the HGV driving test

Smoking in Public Places Ban

becomes law in England and Wales from 1 July 2007, applying to public places including commercial vehicles. Conforming signs must be used to identify smoking prohibition areas.

 

F-Gases Regulations

comes into force on 4 July 2007 imposing some prohibitions on sale in certain products.  

 

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous Waste (England & Wales) Regulations 2005 have now been in place since July 2005, covering many new materials such as recovered refrigerants and all movements require a Consignment Note. Remember that different rules apply in Scotland and N Ireland requiring 3 days pre-notification of any movement.

 

WEEE Directive

UK Regulations implementing the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive come into force on 1 July 2007.

REACH Regulations

on registration and assessment of chemicals entered into force on 1 June 2007

 

Pressure Equipment Directive

is being reviewed by the Commission to determine how it can be simplified and combined with the Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive and the simple pressure vessels Directive.
